Spain awarded highest number of Blue Flags in 2017

Spain is one of the world’s oldest cultures with a rich heritage that has influenced entire continents. It is the birthplace of the Spanish language, Pablo Picasso and Miguel Cervantes, and attracts millions of people every year.

Spain has tons to offer, from chorizos and matadors to flamenco dance and Spanish guitar.

Spain is truly blessed with the overwhelming Mediterranean Sea on 3 sides and with the sea and the coast come the jaw-dropping and beautiful Mediterranean beaches. Spain has almost 3,000 cataloged beaches, the most in all of Europe. The beaches are all virgin and untouched by human existence and even today, exist in all their glory. They are clean, the water is all shades of blue and green and sand is white. It is nothing short of a paradise. The resorts on the beaches are cheaper in Spain than anywhere else in Europe and you can relax on the beaches, soaking in the sun. Dream life awaits!

Spain’s beaches are still some of the best in the world. The country remains home to the highest number of Blue Flag awards.

The Blue Flag is an internationally recognised eco-label that identifies a beach as clean, safe and committed to sustainability, based on strict criteria addressing water quality, environmental education and information, environmental management, and safety and other services.

In 2017, Spain boasts 684 Blue Flags in total, more than any other country – the 30th year in a row that it has topped the Blue Flags table. Spain values its reputation as having the world’s best beaches and has topped the league table from the Foundation for Environmental Education since it was first launched in 1987.

Punta Prima beach, just south of Alicante, with its fine sandy beaches and clean waters has for example been awarded a Blue Flag for 2017 and our stunning La Recoleta III and Panorama Mar developments have the ideal frontline location to enjoy its sea, sand and sunshine.

Panorama Mar is Taylor Wimpey Espana’s latest frontline development on the hugely popular Costa Blanca, situated on the Blue Flag Punta Prima beach in Torrevieja.

La Recoleta III is also located on the beachfront of the Blue Flag Punta Prima beach with access to the sea just a few metres away.

Valencia boasts the highest number of awards, with 129 altogether, and following closely behind it are Galicia, 113, Catalonia, 95 and Andalucia, 90.

Greece has taken second place this year out of 49 countries included, with 430 flags.

Last year, Spain was awarded a record 577 Blue Flags, beating the 573 awarded in 2015. Now, one in five Spanish beaches fly a Blue Flag, positioning the country at the top of tourists’ holiday wishlists for the summer.

Also famous for its exquisite Blue Flag beaches is the esteemed Algarve region in southern Portugal which has been awarded 88 Blue Flags this year. The new Flags were awarded to Armona-Ria in Olhão, Rocha Baixinha in Albufeira and Amoreira Mar in Aljezur.

Representing around 45 per cent of Portugal’s tourism earnings, the Algarve is a beloved beach holiday destination that appeals to many second-home buyers and the recent Blue Flag awards are set to attract further investments this summer.

Playa Marques, Andalucia, Spain

Beachfront living at it’s very best offering a really outstanding quality of life.

Traditional Spanish flavour with a real feeling of luxury.

Overlooking the beach and with stunning views to the mountains.

Superbly situated villas designed to the most exacting of specifications with extensive pergola style veranda with barbecue, private roof terrace to main bedroom and spacious roof solarium. Three double bedrooms, three bathrooms, extensive living/dining area and full size basement and games room and a personal choice of kitchen and bathroom fittings.

Located right in the middle of El Playazo, the great 7 kilometre long sandy beach of the Almanzora region, these quality beach homes, set between the beach itself and the main road, represent an almost unique opportunity to be in a newly built individual villa or townhouse, where you can wander down to the beach at any time of day or night, without crossing a road.

This type of holiday home is becoming increasingly rare as spiralling land costs result in the development of more blocks of ‘go anywhere’ apartments. The Playa Marques beach homes, on the other hand, are very individual, with spacious roof terraces and great views to the sea and the mountains that surround the Almanzora coast.

They are created for relaxation and are purposefully designed in a very light breezy Mediterranean maritime style.
